Turkey

Lots of people ask me, “Why Turkey?”

Turkey is about the size of Texas but its geography and history are far-ranging, the food is delicious, and the people are incredibly generous and friendly.

Traveling across Turkey, you will find yourself running your fingers across Seljuk-carved wooden doors on the steppes of Anatolia. You will hike through Mediterranean forests along the Lycian Way, stumbling upon ancient tombs at midday and swimming off your hike at sunset. You will…

…learn to appreciate the anise-flavored Rakı spirit; adding even more complexity when chased with ruby-red pickled carrot juice. You will befriend a goat herder at empty ruins who will brush some dirt away to show you forgotten mosaics. With the emerald green mountains of the Black Sea as your witness, you will tuck into a piping hot dish of homemade butter, cheese, and cornmeal (the ultimate comfort food!). You will dive off wooden sailing Gulets into the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea, with the Greek islands just a stone’s throw away. Surrounded by the incredible rock formations of Cappadoccia, a little granny will invite you into her one-room home for the warmth and fresh tea of her wood stove.

Ultimately, may these posts be the answer to this recurring question: “Why Turkey?”
