With Europe just a short and cheap flight from Istanbul, it’s easy to get away and enjoy the Christmas markets and decorations. This year, six of us jetted off to Serbia for a weekend to celebrate the Christmas season.

The dream team. On Saturday night we went down to the port area, Beton Hala, which is full of hip restaurants. As there aren’t many international restaurants in Turkey, we love getting the chance to have cuisines from different countries. We were so excited for margaritas and latin small plates at Toro.
Taste
What does one do in December in Serbia when the snow is falling all afternoon? Have a long lunch and one too many little glasses of rakija, of course! The sweet, fruit-flavored alcohol made a great digestif for my friends, whereas I opted for the caramel tres leches cake.
Do
Every time I go to Eastern Europe, I’m reminded about how much I LOVE the modern art coming from this region. Do try and include a contemporary art museum if you are traveling anywhere in Eastern Europe.
